Construction Slowdown Reflected In Unemployment Figures

The continuing slowdown in the construction sector has lead to the largest increase in unemployment rates since December 1999.

The Central Statistics Office figures show the rate of unemployment rose to 4.9% last month.

The seasonally adjusted Live Register shows an increase in unemployment of 7,800 to 179,400.

The monthly increase was made up of 6,400 men and 1,400 women.
