A new €57,000 play park has been officially opened in Coosan Point, County Westmeath.
Joe Whelan, Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, officially unveiled the facility, which was built under the Playground Provision Scheme.
Mr Whelan said the scheme has already made a valuable contribution to providing community facilities in towns and villages across the county.
Over the last three years the council has sought to ensure the equitable distribution of playground facilities throughout the county, according to a spokesman.
"The policy position of the Council is to seek to provide an additional playground per annum, in each electoral area, subject to the criteria set down in the Playground Provision Scheme and primarily subject to funding availability and site availability and suitability," he said.
Stressing the importance of play, Mr Whelan said it is crucial every effort is made to ensure the provision of play facilities that meet the needs of children in Westmeath.
