Walls Construction has commenced the construction of the new Research and Innovation Centre for Network Embeded Systems (NEMBES).

The building comprises 1,705 square metres over two floors, including accommodation for 90 researchers and 10 support staff, hardware development laboratories and teaching and learning facilities.

Plans also includes a large and adaptable "demonstration space" which will allow practical demonstration of NES applications arising out of the research carried out in the building.

A spokesman for Walls said: "Embedded electronic systems already unobtrusively regulate many aspects of our living and working lives from home heating to keeping us safe while driving and to controlling of complex industrial processes.

"Networks of embedded systems (NES) will also underpin the internet of the future - the Internet of Things - where not only computers are connected by the internet but also the everyday objects that surround us in our daily lives."

Meanwhile, construction has begun on the new build and part refurbishment of 40-42 O'Connell Street.

Walls has been tasked with transforming the space into a modern office and retail development.

The building extends over 5,928 square metres, comprising of a mix of retail and office space.

Numbers 40 and 41 O'Connell Street Upper are to be demolished and replaced with four and five-storey over basement structures.

Number 42, a protected structure, will be refurbished and reinstatement of all the original finishes and fixtures and fittings where possible, Walls said.
