Sinn Fein Opposes Water Charges

Sinn Fein has once again said they will reverse water charges over the course of any government in which the party is involved.

Spokesperson on the Environment and Local Government, Brian Stanley TD, has also reiterated Sinn Féin's opposition to water charges.

He was responding to an announcement by the Energy Regulator of the charges to be paid by households.


Deputy Stanley said: "While the charges for both metered and unmetered users will be capped for the first nine months; at an estimated €278 per year for a household of two adults and two children, that is above the average of €240 which the Taoiseach claimed earlier in the year.

"It is also clear from the pricing structure that when allowances end, as they will, and when the full impact of charges is imposed that the average bill will rise significantly."
