The Land Development Agency (LDA) and Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) have agreed on the transfer of approximately 17 acres of land at Leopardstown Racecourse in south Dublin, clearing the way for the construction of around 800 new homes.
This major residential development will be delivered on land currently owned by HRI, with the LDA taking ownership and leading the delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient housing. The site will be served by the reactivation of the existing but unused Luas stop at Leopardstown, providing direct access to public transport and supporting the long-term sustainability of the new neighbourhood.
John Coleman, CEO of the Land Development Agency, said: "The agreement follows positive engagement between the LDA and HRI. I would like to thank HRI for supporting and accommodating the delivery of affordable housing and I look forward to working with HRI to support and assist the ambitious plans for the further development of the wider Leopardstown Racecourse campus."
Work is now beginning on the design and planning for the housing-led masterplan, with construction activity expected to follow subject to planning approval. The homes will be A-rated and built to modern standards, addressing much-needed housing demand in a key area of south Dublin.
The development will be delivered in close collaboration with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
