County L'Derry-headquartered Henry Brothers Construction has delivered a new Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) facility at Gamecock Barracks in Nuneaton, working as the principal contractor on behalf of VIVO Defence Services under the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
The project was part of the Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) Portfolio, a £5.1 billion programme to modernise the UK Defence estate. Designed by Tetra Tech, the newly built compound comprises an office building, garage, secure store, and training area, providing a purpose-built base for the relocated Nuneaton EOD Troop.
Previously based at Chetwynd Barracks in Nottingham, the unit—part of 721 EOD Squadron, 11 EOD and Search Regiment—moved to the new site in July as part of ongoing estate rationalisation.
Managing Director of Henry Brothers, Ian Taylor, said: "Henry Brothers has been involved in a significant number of schemes across the UK, helping to upgrade and improve MOD sites, including several in partnership with VIVO Defence Services.
"We are very proud to have been involved in delivering a new home for the EOD Troop as the troop moves from Chilwell in Nottingham to Gamecock Barracks near Nuneaton."
The regiment is responsible for the safe storage, handling, and disposal of land service ammunition and explosives, as well as supporting operational readiness in dealing with explosive, chemical, biological, and radiological threats.
The relocation supports wider DEO aims, which include releasing public sector land for alternative use and reinvesting proceeds back into the Defence estate.
