Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed that a £680,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the Cullaville Road, Crossmaglen, will begin on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.

The project will see 2.5km of the road resurfaced with asphalt, stretching from the Concession Road junction to 100 metres past Lissnaraw Road.

Announcing the scheme, Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Crossmaglen area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Crossmaglen area. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To allow the works to proceed safely, a road closure will be in place from Wednesday, 27 August until Friday, 31 October 2025. The road will be closed Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm but will reopen during evenings and weekends.

A signed diversion route will be in operation, directing traffic via the B30 Cullaville Road, The Square, Newry Street, Carran Road, Cloghoge Road, Freeduff Road, Skerriff Road, Cullyhanna Road, A29 Dundalk Road, A25 Blaney Road, R182, R181, N53, and A37 Concession Road, and vice versa.

The Department for Infrastructure said the works and traffic management have been planned to reduce disruption as much as possible. However, motorists should allow extra travel time, expect some delays, and follow all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to weather conditions, the scheme is expected to be completed by 31 October 2025. The Department has said it will keep the public updated on progress.
