MAC Belfast Installs New Solar System

Construction News Image

The Metropolitan Arts Centre (MAC), a central cultural hub in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter, is now powered by a bespoke solar system installed by renewable energy provider Solarfix.

The installation marks a significant move toward environmental responsibility for one of Northern Ireland's foremost arts venues. Over the lifetime of the system, it is expected to prevent almost 300,000 kg of carbon from entering the atmosphere, an impact equivalent to removing dozens of cars from the road. The venue is also set to save thousands of pounds annually on energy costs.

Lisa McGinley, CEO at the MAC, emphasised that sustainability is "part of who we are," stating that cultural spaces should lead by example in showing how "creativity and climate action can go hand in hand." Michael O'Donnell, Managing Director at Solarfix, said the project proves that even busy city organisations can take meaningful steps to reduce carbon emissions and cut energy costs.

Solarfix continues to support businesses, community organisations, and homeowners across Northern Ireland in switching to cleaner, more efficient power.
