Hanley Energy has announced a major partnership with Equinix to develop a 150,000 sq. ft. advanced manufacturing facility in Dundalk, Co. Louth.
The project, which involves an investment of up to $700 million, was launched in the presence of Taoiseach Michéal Martin and is set to create hundreds of high-skilled jobs in the region.
The new facility will serve as a global hub for the production of critical power equipment, including Low-voltage Switchgear, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and Remote Power Panels (RPPs). These components are essential for Equinix's high-performance data centres and AI-workload environments. The agreement spans an initial five-year period, with an option to extend to ten, ensuring a minimum annual commitment of $70 million from Equinix.
The investment is expected to initially create 200 roles for engineers and technicians specialising in precision engineering and lean manufacturing. Additionally, apprenticeship and training programmes will be established to develop local talent. By co-locating production, the project aims to reduce lead times by 10-15% compared to standard procurement methods.
A standout feature of the development is a temperature-controlled testing laboratory—the only facility of its type in Ireland or the UK. This lab will allow mission-critical equipment to undergo rigorous testing for endurance, extreme weather, and seismic simulations. The hub is being designed to nZEB (near-zero energy building) and LEED-aligned standards, prioritising low-carbon construction and long-term environmental efficiency.
John O'Driscoll, CEO, Hanley Energy, said: "Partnering with Equinix on this transformative project highlights the strength of Irish engineering and innovation. Our advanced testing facilities and expertise will ensure that the equipment produced here meets the highest global standards, supporting data centers worldwide."
Taoiseach Michéal Martin said: "This significant announcement reinforces Ireland's position as a leader in digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. The creation of hundreds of skilled jobs and the introduction of world-class facilities in Dundalk is a major boost for the region and for our national economy."
Adaire Fox-Martin, CEO, Equinix, said: "This investment builds upon Equinix's longtime presence in Ireland and reflects the strategically important role the country plays in the global technology ecosystem. Our expansion in Dundalk further strengthens our ability to meet growing customer demand while creating local jobs and supporting the community."
