Uisce Éireann is set to commence significant water mains upgrades in Letterkenny to expand capacity, strengthen the reliability of local supplies and facilitate housing development in the area.
The scheme includes laying over 800 metres of new water mains on Leck Road, along the L1114 between the N13 Ballybofey Road and the L1094 Cullion Road. Delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Accelerated Growth Programme, the project is designed to provide the headroom needed for future housing growth in the town.
The investment will increase capacity within the local network and support planned development across Letterkenny. Works will be undertaken by Farrans, with completion expected by late autumn 2026.
Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said: "This project is an important step in supporting the continued growth of Letterkenny and ensuring the local network can meet future demand. The installation of new water mains on Leck Road will increase capacity and help provide the infrastructure needed to support new homes and sustainable development.
"Our teams are also on the ground in Letterkenny upgrading the network in the Woodlands area of the town, where we are replacing approximately 1.5km of water mains to further boost capacity and secure supply. We understand that works of this nature can be disruptive, and we would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation while we deliver these essential works."
To facilitate the Leck Road works safely, traffic management will be in place, including a road closure along the active work section. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Construction will run Monday to Friday between 10am and 7pm to minimise disruption, with the road open outside these hours. Work areas will be limited to short sections where possible.
