Lighting Dublin Airport's New Terminal Two

An international lighting company has contributed to the atmosphere at the refurbished Dublin airport.

Sill said it was the latest addition to a "long list of successful transport projects".

Terminal 2 cost €395m to build and can handle up to 15m passengers a year.

Sill worked with lighting designers Arup Lighting to capitalise on the use of daylight from facades and roof spine skylights, with luminaries integrated into the building fabric to minimize visual clutter and guide passengers through the airport.

All in all 1,800 Sill projectors are used in what was at the time the largest construction project in Ireland.

Vasiliki Malakasi of Arup said: "We are very pleased with the projectors and their photometric performance. The Sill luminaires were fit for purpose, robust yet elegant in design and were competitively priced. Most importantly, we managed to work well with the Sill product design team developing special fittings and parts. We had technical back up and support throughout the project from initial design to onsite installation."

Sill created a gimbal frame for up to three Sill 021 projectors.

These were supplied in batches to suit the build programme, ready assembled for fast, accurate installation and plug-and-play operation.

Integrated into the space between the structural roof steels and the stretched fabric soffit, the high performance, low glare projectors illuminate all the high roofed areas in Arrivals, Departures and Pier E.
