Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy has welcomed the announcement of just over £2 million in extra support to reduce energy costs for low‑income households across Northern Ireland.
The funding, unveiled by Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald, will be delivered through the NI Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) and will back measures such as loft and cavity wall insulation for more than 1,000 homes.
The latest tranche brings total domestic energy‑efficiency support from the Department for the Economy to over £5 million in the past three years, helping thousands of households cut their bills.
Speaking after the announcement, Pádraig Delargy said: "I want to welcome this investment which will provide financial support to families to heat and insulate their homes, while reducing their energy emissions, thereby complementing the Economy Ministers commitment to the green economy and a Just Transition.
"Too many households continue to bear the brunt of the cost of living crisis and are forced to choose between heating and other essentials. This funding will combat that and help to ensure homes are warmer, healthier and cheaper to heat.
Mr Delargy also highlighted the wider benefits of the scheme: "As well as supporting households, this funding will sustain local jobs and skills in the energy-efficiency sector and help drive our transition to a greener economy. It shows how targeted public investment can deliver social, economic and environmental benefits at the same time."
