Fianna Fáil's housing spokesperson, Deputy Séamus McGrath, has welcomed new figures showing a 20.4% rise in housing completions in 2025, marking the highest annual total since 2018.
A total of 36,284 homes were completed in 2025, up from 30,330 in 2024. Output increased across housing types, with apartment completions reaching 12,047 units (up 38.7%) and single dwelling completions rising to 5,929 (up 12.5%).
Deputy Séamus McGrath said: "When these figures are considered alongside the December commencement figures, which show 3,065 units starting on site, more than double the previous month, there is a sense of momentum in housing.
"It is positive to see growth in both completions and commencements. This shows homes are being delivered now, while a pipeline of new homes continues to be built to meet future demand."
He said increasing supply is central to tackling high house prices and rents. "The more homes that are built and brought to market, the more opportunities there are for people to buy or rent a home. Increasing supply remains key."
While describing the figures as encouraging, he said the focus remains on removing remaining obstacles. "These figures indicate the direction we are heading, but there is still more work to be done. Our focus is on clearing the blockages that remain in the system so we can support higher levels of completions in the years ahead and continue to build a strong pipeline of homes to meet future demand."
