Steelwork for the Maigue River Bridge has arrived at Foynes Port, having been offloaded last week from the BBC Bergan after a journey of more than two weeks from Cimolai’s fabrication workshop in Northern Italy.
The delivery marks a major milestone for the Adare Bypass programme, with the Maigue River Bridge on the project’s critical path.
All components have been unloaded and are currently stored in a holding yard at Foynes Port.
Over the next three weeks, the steelwork will be moved to the Adare Bypass site in approximately 60 articulated lorry loads.
The 7km Adare Bypass, part of the N21/N69 Foynes to Limerick Project, is being delivered by the Sisk Sorensen Joint Venture. Construction began in January 2025.
Designed to ease severe congestion in Adare village by diverting up to 80% of through traffic, the scheme is scheduled for completion in June 2027 ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup.
The €150 million scheme, linking Croagh to Adare, includes a bridge over the River Maigue, two grade-separated junctions, and two new railway bridges over the Limerick to Foynes line.
