Uisce Éireann is scheduled to start construction works next week in Ballivor, Co Meath, to expand storage capacity and upgrade the local water network, providing a more resilient and secure water supply for local businesses and residents.
The simultaneous upgrades will be delivered across two distinct projects: the addition of a new treated water reservoir to expand storage capacity at Kilmurray Water Treatment Plant, and the laying of five kilometres of new water main stretching from the plant into Ballivor village.
The construction of the new treated water storage reservoir is designed to protect potable water storage and boost supply security for roughly 2,500 Uisce Éireann customers in Ballivor by guaranteeing a minimum of 24 hours of reserve capacity. Furthermore, this scheme will modernise and enhance the treatment process at the Kilmurray facility to elevate drinking water quality. These specific works will be contained entirely within the existing site boundary and off public highways.
The second phase of the project entails installing five kilometres of new water main parallel to the existing pipeline to accommodate future development and growth across the wider Ballivor region. This pipeline installation will progress from the Kilmurray Water Treatment Plant along the R156 to the heart of Ballivor village.
This network modernisation aims to accommodate both current and future community developments. By upgrading the supply capacity of the local water network, the works will enhance performance, ease pressure on the existing infrastructure, and facilitate regional social and economic growth.
Matthew Thomson, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, stated: "These works are an important investment in Ballivor's water infrastructure. As well as increasing storage capacity and ensuring resilience and security of supply, the upgrades will support new housing and future social and economic growth in Ballivor.
"We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause. We would like to thank the local community for their patience while we deliver these essential improvements."
The contract will be executed on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd. and Shareridge, with completion anticipated in the first half of 2027.
