Uisce Éireann has begun a major upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant in Borris-in-Ossory, a project valued at over €4.1 million to boost capacity, enhance performance and safeguard the local environment.
Homes and businesses in Borris-in-Ossory and surrounding areas are expected to benefit as modernisation works get under way to ensure the infrastructure can accommodate future growth and development.
Commenting on the project, David McSharry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "This is a significant investment in Borris-in-Ossory that will ensure the wastewater infrastructure can support the needs of the community into the future. By increasing capacity and improving treatment performance, this project will help facilitate sustainable growth in the area, while also delivering key infrastructure to protect the local environment and ensure compliance with Irish and EU legislation."
The scheme will deliver new stormwater and treated-sludge storage tanks, construct an additional treatment tank, upgrade existing infrastructure, and install modern equipment including air blowers, pumps and a new control system. Alongside broader site improvements, these measures will strengthen day-to-day operations and the plant's long-term reliability.
Conway Engineering is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by Autumn 2027.
