Uisce Éireann's water network upgrade along McDermott Street in Ballina remains on schedule, with construction crews now advancing to the third phase of the project.
The initiative is designed to improve the reliability of the local water supply for both businesses and residents, whilst also expanding network capacity to support future development. Phase three will focus on the section of McDermott Street located between Fenian Row and Mercy Road.
Delivered under Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme, this upcoming stage requires a temporary road closure in effect from tonight, Monday, 29 June, until the end of August. Clearly signposted diversion routes will be active via Fenian Row, Lord Edward Street, and Mercy Road. Access for local residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout this period.
Farrans Construction is executing the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Following the current stage, phase four will span a two-week period in August from Mercy Row to Convent Hill, followed by a final five-week phase connecting Convent Hill to Teeling Street.
In a separate, concurrent investment in Ballina, an additional Uisce Éireann crew is replacing more than half a kilometre of aging water mains within the Amana Estate. Operating under the National Leakage Reduction Programme, these specific works aim to minimise the risk of bursts and leaks while supporting growth in that part of the town.
Michael McManus, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said: "We're really pleased with how the works are progressing. This next phase is another important step in delivering a more reliable water supply for Ballina, both now and into the future. We understand that road closures can be inconvenient, and we'd like to thank the community for their continued support as we carry out these essential works."
