Uisce Éireann will install 1.6km of new water mains in Enniscorthy as part of a programme to improve supply reliability and support future development, following a €16m upgrade at the Vinegar Hill water treatment plant.
The utility said it is beginning further works this week to replace ageing and damaged pipes across the town. The project aims to strengthen the local network, reduce disruption for households and businesses, and increase capacity to meet a growing population’s needs.
With a €16 million investment recently completed at the Vinegar Hill water treatment plant, the next step is to realise the full potential of the facility by constructing a new, larger pipe to bring treated water into the town, helping to unlock much-needed growth and development.
Additional sections of mains have been prioritised for replacement due to deterioration that has at times caused low pressure and supply interruptions for customers. Once finished, the combined works are expected to significantly reduce leakage and deliver a more sustainable, dependable supply for years to come.
Works will take place across three sections: from Vinegar Hill Reservoir to Old Church Road; from Vinegar Hill Water Treatment Plant to Father Murphy Park (Vinegar Hill Lane junction); and from Father Murphy Park (via Slaney View Park) to the Shannon–Templeshannon crossroads.
Crews will prioritise activity around local schools during the summer break to minimise disruption. The project is being delivered by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by the winter of 2026.
