Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £875,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing programme on the B94 Hillhead Road in Ballyclare.

The project will cover approximately 1.38 kilometres, stretching from the junction with Mill Road to around 20 metres north of the Hillhead Mews junction.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Ballyclare area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of residents, businesses and those travelling in the Ballyclare area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 12 March 2027. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

The scheme will be delivered in two phases. Phase 1, from Monday 2 November 2026 to Wednesday 23 December 2026, will involve kerbing and footway works between the Mill Road junction and the Templepatrick Road junction. To facilitate this, a lane closure will apply to traffic leaving Ballyclare along Hillhead Road between 09:30 and 16:30. A signed diversion will operate via U59 Mill Road – A57 Templepatrick Road – A57 Templepatrick Road off-slip.

Phase 2, running from Monday 11 January 2027 to Friday 12 March 2027, will see carriageway resurfacing from the Mill Road junction to approximately 20 metres north of Hillhead Mews. A full road closure will be in place on this section between 09:30 and 16:30. The signed diversion for Phase 2 will be confirmed and published in a later press notice.

The Department has scheduled the works and traffic management to minimise disruption. Local access and Translink bus and school services will be accommodated, but road users should expect some delays, allow extra time for journeys, and follow all temporary restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather, substantial completion is expected by Friday 12 March 2027. Any changes will be communicated by the Department. Further details and updates are available at www.trafficwatchni.com/twni/.
