West Belfast MLA Fra McCann said he has received a number of queries from Sinn Fein representatives in rural areas.
Mr McCann said these people are concerned a halt to these grants will force them to live in "deplorable and dangerous conditions".
The MLA said Housing Executive officials have a duty of care to people, suggesting many grant applications are made on the grounds of health and safety.

"The Housing Executive needs not only to review the decision to withdraw these grants but it also needs to carry out inspections of these properties to ensure people are not being forced to live in conditions which are life threatening," he said.
"Over the past few months I have challenged the Housing Minister to explain why she ordered that finances be directed away from these grants that are designed to improve the standards in some of our worst housing stock."
According to Mr McCann, Sinn Féin has asked for any additional money to be ring-fenced by the Executive to ensure these grants and replacements are continued.
"Sinn Féin have said failure to do so forces people to live in atrocious conditions," he added.
