NI Water has begun a major programme of works to upgrade four key reservoirs in Co Antrim - from Ballymena to Ballymoney.

The £3m project, funded under the Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland, was described by NI Water as an example of its "commitment to delivering a 21st Century infrastructure for the people of Northern Ireland".

Project Manager, Gary McFadden said: "The Mid-Antrim Reservoirs Project involves the design and construction of four reinforced concrete service reservoirs at four separate locations.

"It will allow us to achieve a number of things, namely increasing storage, cutting down on maintenance costs and enhancing the overall security of supply.

"We are currently in the design stage and aim to begin construction shortly."

NI Water is working in partnership with Farrans and Capita Symonds to complete the scheme over the next twelve months.
