A scheme to install gas heating to 58 social homes in Ballymagroarty is underway.
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive has already installed gas central heating in 635 properties in the city since the start of this latest scheme.
District Manager Kevin McDowell said the £360,000 investment would benefits homes in Collon Terrace area.
"We are replacing room heaters with new gas heating. The new central heating system will provide an easy to use, clean and energy efficient way for the residents to heat their homes," he said
"The new heating systems will also lead to reduced heating costs for the tenant and will also reduce maintenance cost for the Housing Executive.
"In addition air pollution levels will be significantly improved over the old solid fuel appliances."
Yvonne McCrossan from Ballymagroarty Community Association said this is good news for the residents in the area.
"The Housing Executive investment will help to improve the quality of life for those residents by providing a more efficient and economical way to make their homes more comfortable."
