A Carrigaline-based building firm has signed a €4.8m deal to construct the final phase of the Christchurch renewal project in Cork city centre.
Joseph Lane and Sons will refurbish the protected Christchurch structure, which will be incorporated into the existing Triskel Arts Centre in Tobin Street.
City manager Joe Gavin said he was delighted to see the project enter its final stage.
"When completed it will showcase Cork’s growing reputation as a festival city, and underpin this council’s commitment to preserving the heritage of the city in a manner which is entirely consistent with a modern and vibrant metropolitan area," he said.
The completed venue will allow for a range of gallery, workshop and performance spaces, and is is due for completion in November 2010.
The project design team consists of Murray Ó Laoire Architects, Bruce Shaw Partnership and John O’Donovan Consulting Engineers.
