Northern Ireland's Road Service has identified and prioritised a number of drainage improvement schemes to address flood risks in North Down, the Transport Minister confirmed yesterday.

Works have already been completed at various locations in Bangor, Helens Bay, Groomsport and Holywood with more planned at other locations in the area, Conor Murphy said.

Projects brought forward by the department will form part of an overall £3.9m in the area.

Mr Murphy also welcomed further progress on safety improvements with the installation of pelican crossings on the Gransha Road and Castle Park Avenue in Bangor, along with several street lighting improvement schemes across the borough.

Road Service’s Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt highlighted to a range of schemes completed this year plus those nearing completion.

These included street lighting schemes at Ballyholme Esplanade, Clandeboye Way/Close/Drive, Sherwood Road/Park/Gardens and Rushfield at Helens Bay.
