Construction work on the A1 Beech Hill to Cloghogue dual carriageway is several months ahead of schedule, the contractor has said.
Roads Service, who sanctioned the scheme, has welcomed the news.
Builders on-site expect the current momentum to be maintained.
Fifteen of the 17 major structures on the scheme have been completed and work on the remaining two is "well advanced", Roads Service said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Cloghogue flyover junction on the dual carriageway is expected to re-open during the first week of December.
Southern Division's Strategic Road Improvement Manager, Leslie McCullough said "good progress" has been made on Newry and Mourne road works this year.
He said these included road realignment improvements to the A37 Concession Road at Wards Corner, Culloville.
Traffic calming schemes have also been introduced on the Scrogg Road, Kilkeel and Doran’s Hill, Newry. An extensive programme of resurfacing and surface dressing has also been completed.
