A contentious bridge development in Co Sligo has gained the backing of several local Fine Gael councillors.
Support for the Eastern Bridge project comes after Housing Minister Michael Finneran revealed it could be omitted from the council's development plans.
Speaking in Sligo last week, Mr Finneran raised concerns over the bridge's impact on the Cranmore Regeneration Plan.
The Minister met with borough councillors and Cranmore residents before holding a private meeting with county councillors.
Before meeting Mr Finneran, five of the county council's 12 Fine Gael representatives voiced their support for the bridge proposals.
Party whip, councillor Hubert Keaney said they feel the bridge is a vital piece of infrastructure for Sligo town.
