Cork County Council has allocated almost €200,000 in grant funding to property and business owners across the county to support improvements to town centre properties.
A total of 145 applications were submitted under the 2026 Streetscape Enhancement Scheme, with funding of €199,208.85 awarded to 119 successful applicants across 29 towns and villages.
The scheme is designed to enhance the appearance and vibrancy of main streets throughout County Cork by supporting streetscape improvement works, with applications assessed individually based on their potential visual impact and contribution to traditional shopfronts.
Funding support is available through four measures, ranging from 60% grant aid towards eligible works to full funding for certain materials. Supported works include the painting of premises, improvements to shopfront signage and the cost of materials.
Cork County Council is also providing successful applicants with guidance on suitable colour palettes and design approaches, conservation principles for traditional shopfronts, and the use of the Irish language in signage.
The council said the initiative aims to support the regeneration of town centres while preserving and enhancing the character of towns and villages across County Cork.
