In the third quarter of 2009, planning permissions were granted for 8,584 dwelling units across the Irish Republic, compared with 15,293 units for the same period in 2008, a decrease of 43.9%.

The third quarter figures also show that planning permissions were granted for 5,362 houses in the third quarter of 2009 and 11,532 in the third quarter of 2008, a decrease of 53.5%.

Planning permissions were granted for 3,222 apartment units, compared with 3,761 units for the same period in 2008, a decrease of 14.3%.
