The worst infrastructure crisis in living memory is currently gripping Co Carlow, a newspaper report has said.
Extreme weather conditions continue to take their toll in the area, as roads crumble and water pipes continue to burst and freeze due to the recent cold snap, according to the Carlow People.
However, despite hearing details about many of the worst problems at a meeting yesterday, the County Council may not be in a position to rectify even the most basic road repairs for several months, due to cash restraints.
Officials in the Council plan to apply to central government for additional funding in an effort to tackle the problems, admitting that their initial response to the problems caused by bad weather was 'slow', due to a shortage of equipment and manpower.
Torrential downpour of rain last week caused major flooding problems in Tullow and other areas, further emphasising the strain the weather has inflicted on authorities.
