Around €8bn worth of construction projects are expected to get underway in Ireland this year, according to a new survey.
The Construction Information Services (CIS), said €8.48bn worth of new developments will get underway in addition to €8.2bn worth of schemes that have already begun, reports the Irish Independent.
The CIS survey examines all projects being planned and built in a range of sectors including commercial, residential, educational and social.
The research indicates there are 193 projects currently under construction while as many as 1,494 building projects worth €44.3bn are currently on hold.
Unsurprisingly, Dublin will be one of the busiest areas for brand new developments over the next 12 months.
The next phase in the constructions of the €135m Charlestown Centre is due to get underway this year in the St Margaret's Road area of Finglas while tendering work on the regeneration of Ballymun Shopping Centre is expected to be undertaken this year with a view to being on the ground late 2010 or early 2011.
