New School For Swords

The Department of Education has sanctioned the opening of a new Educate Together primary school in Swords, Co Dublin from September 2010.

The announcement brings to an end a two-year campaign to get the green light from the government to open such a facility.

Educate Together is a representative organisation that aims to establish new multi-denominational primary schools across Ireland.

The body’s Regional Development Officer, Gerry McKevitt, said the selection of Swords is a "vindication" of the dedication and hard work of the local community and in particular, the Residents Association of Holywell.

"We have worked hard for this day," said Mr McKevitt.

"Swords is a vibrant community that is vocal about education preference for its children. A new Educate Together school is badly needed, as there are long waiting lists for our other schools in the area. We await with anticipation the Department’s recommendation for the school's accommodation plans."
