A beauty spot in Co Donegal has been destroyed after household and industrial waste was dumped on the side of the mountain, it has been claimed.

Fly-tippers have been accused of turning Sliabh Sneacht, near Carndonagh, into an "eyesore", according to a BBC report.

"It is going to pollute the water system," said the president of Mountaineering Ireland, Alan Tees.

"People need to understand this is our environment and we need to look after it.

"I know there is an ongoing debate about the cost of getting rid of rubbish in Donegal and people now have to pay to get rid of rubbish."

He added: "The water runs down into reservoirs and we all end up drinking it, so it affects all of us."
