Some 345,000 houses and apartments in Ireland are currently vacant, according to a new report.
This figure represents 17% of all housing in the country.
The report, published by University College Dublin, says that the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) could delay the normal market recovery process by seeking to prevent downward price corrections.
It also claims Government policy aimed at maintaining price levels with so much over supply could prove to be both ineffectual and wasteful.
