Irish Housing Minister, Michael Finneran has published his Department's 2010 Rural Water Programme.
As part of the scheme, the Minister has allocated almost €85 million worth of capital block grant allocations to County Councils.
A further €8m is also being provided for remedial works approved by the Department in 2008 and 2009 for particular public water supplies identified by the EPA as having potential quality issues.
The allocations aim to play a major role in bringing rural water schemes up to standard and, especially, in bringing any remaining schemes in the Rural Water Action Plan to completion this year. This Action Plan is focussed on the improvement of rural water supplies identified in response to EU proceedings.
