Skeletal remains that disappeared from a sand quarry in Co Donegal at the weekend have been handed in to a museum in Letterkenny.
The bones of a child – thought to be thousands of years old – were found in a quarry near Gweedore last week.
The discovery came after the site was sealed off and investigated when a skull and bones were found at a separate location that was using sand delivered from the quarry.
The skull and bones were found at a GAA pitch, which is being redeveloped at Ballintra.
However, a local man handed in the missing skeletal bones to Letterkenny's County Museum.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, has an interest in archaeology and has been gathering artefacts in the area over the past 10 years.
He claims he took the bones, which were embedded in a sand bank, to prevent them from being damaged by children or holidaymakers in the area.
