Jobs Assured As Quarry Owners Expand

A quarrying business in Co Fermanagh and Tyrone is to expand after its new owners promised investment.

Just six months after anticipated closure at Tarmac Ltd, which was to shut down operations at Carn Quarry in Ederney as well as at Dunaree near Drumquin, the news is now much more promising.

McCaffrey's Quarries in Derrlylin purchased both facilities and took over the Moffatts businesses from Tarmac and since the deal came into effect in April, the message of investment and job creation has gone out


Pauric McCaffrey told the Ulster Herald last week that while Carn was never officially closed, Dunaree had been shut since September.

He said: "Both are now back in operation and we have long-term ambitions to grow the business and bring back the days when both were thriving concerns," he said.

However, he said it will take time but noted the potential for developments in the Omagh area and said that the construction of proposed wind farms and the A5 corridor were just two of the promising projects.
