UUP East Londonderry MLA, David McClarty has condemned the ongoing vandalism at the site of the new West Bann Community Centre in the Heights area of Coleraine.

"I am deeply concerned at the reports of ongoing vandalism at the site of the new West Bann Community Centre in Coleraine," he said.

"The project, which is estimated to cost a total of £1,811,184, is being jointly funded by the Department of Social Development (DSD), through its Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund, and Coleraine Borough Council and will be an asset for the entire local community.

"It is therefore vital that the local community unites to protect it and I would appeal to local people to contact the Police immediately if they hear or see anything suspicious in the vicinity of the site, and I would also appeal to parents to ensure that their children are not tempted to sue the building site as some kind of playground, due to the obvious associated dangers

He concluded: "Local people in the Heights both need and deserve this Centre. They do not need vandals who are only destroying their own communities and making life a misery for others."
