The newly elected Lord Mayor of Belfast, Cllr Pat Convery has spoken of the benefits of redevelopment across the city.
Mr Convery said he would work for a "safe, clean, united and prosperous city".
Speaking about his appointment, he said: "In the current economic climate no city will escape the ravages of public service cuts. I will do everything to ensure that vital frontline services, which we all so desperately need, are protected. And despite the difficult times, we can be proud of the investment we have attracted. We have brought jobs and services and we have revitalised our city. I will continue that work and I will continue to promote Belfast.
"We have a major opportunity coming our way in 2012 which marks the centenary of the launch of the Titanic and the opening of the Titanic Signature Project. We must grasp these opportunities and do our utmost to market our city on the world stage."
He continued: "But I will not be able to do this alone and partnership will be the key to our success. Only by working together will we fulfil Belfast's rich promise and make Belfast a world-class city – a city of progress, of regeneratation, of innovation, of development and of excellence. A city we can all be proud to call home."
