The new M3 motorway will be officially opened this morning - two months ahead of schedule.
The National Roads Authority said the new road, which has cost €1bn to build and has two tolls, could reduce off the peak journey-times between Dublin and Cavan by an hour.
The routing of the road through the Tara-Skryne Valley was controversial and led to protests and legal actions by activists.
The 60km of motorway runs from Clonee on the Dublin/Meath border up to the Meath/Cavan border, bypassing the towns of Navan, Kells and Dunshaughlin.
Irish Transport Minister, Noel Dempsey has said he motorway will improve safety and the quality of life for those who will use the road and for those living in the towns now bypassed.
