Clare County Council is asking public and business consumers to adhere to a series of urgent water supply conservation measures introduced as a result of the prolonged dry spell of weather.
A spokesperson said: "Rainfall during the first half of 2010 has been unusually low. If this trend continues, levels of lakes and ground water are likely to become low, impacting directly on water supply sources."
The Local Authority is asking the public and business consumers to use water as sparingly as possible.
It has advised the public on a number of measures to do so, including using the washing machine and dishwasher only when they have a full load, checking the plumbing for leaks and avoiding washing cars and watering lawns if possible.
