Views Sought On Glengormley Regeneration

The people of Glengormley are being asked to give their views on proposals for the regeneration of their town centre.

The draft proposals includes the remodelling the Antrim Road/Ballyclare Road junction to improve pedestrian access and movement and create a civic space, the development of existing leisure provision in the Glenwell area, a small scale commercial retail/office provision at the junction of the Antrim Road and Portland Avenue and the creation of additional car parking and some residential development.

NI Social Development Minister, Alex Attwood said: "I look forward to hearing the views from people in Glengormley about their town centre. It is important that local communities are helping to shape the future of their town. I am calling on everyone interested in contributing to the future development of the town to give their views on the proposals.

"I am determined that this consultation process will lead to a more vibrant Glengormley as we progress towards a shared vision for the future."

Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Paula Bradley added: "These are exciting proposals for the regeneration of Glengormley Town Centre and we hope we can turn this vision into a reality. The consultation period offers a chance for all users of the town centre to have their say in shaping the future of Glengormly and I would encourage local residents and traders to attend the consultation open days."

The draft proposals will be on public display for an eight-week consultation period from Wednesday 30 June 2010 in Glengormley Park Pavilion.

Masterplan consultants, Department for Social Development or Newtownabbey Borough Council staff will be in attendance to discuss the proposals from 30 June to 2 July, 10.00 am – 4.30 pm.

A copy of the plans will be on display in the foyer of Newtownabbey Borough Council Offices at Mossley Mill throughout the consultation period.
