Plans for a €50 million, 5,000-seat events centre in Cork have been welcomed by the city manager.
The seven-storey development by O'Callaghan Properties based on a two-acre site at Albert Quay, within walking distance of Cork city centre, would include the construction of a 260-bedroom four-star hotel.
Joe Gavin described the proposal as "encouraging" and said: "Our aim is to get an events centre for Cork as soon as possible . . . we have four parties expressing interest as well as Clowater Asset Management's plan for the docklands."
The City Council is still seeking clarification from Clowater over its €33 million 5,500-seat events centre plans by troubled developer Howard Holdings.
