Cruise Ship Deal On Horizon For Mivan ‎

Antrim-based contracting company Mivan has been awarded a £2m re-fit onboard the Pacific Pearl cruise liner.

Work will take place in Singapore in November of this year for a period of 36 days, completing the week before Christmas.

Mivan will be working for client Carnival Australia and the scope of work includes the Salt Grill & Waterfront restaurants, Sunweaver Café and the Connexions & Oasis Bars.

The Waterfront Restaurant is the largest area within Mivan's remit. Pre-fabrication will begin at Mivan's manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland during July. The ship's interiors will follow the same design concept as her sister ships, developed by London based designers SMC Design.

The 63,500-tonne superliner will have her inaugural cruise from Auckland on 22 December 2010, joining P&O Cruises Australia's existing fleet of three ships, Pacific Dawn, Pacific Sun and Pacific Jewel. Following the refurbishment it will have capacity for around 2000 passengers.

Mivan completed the £1m re-fit of the Pacific Dawn in June of this year which included similar areas to those on the Pacific Pearl. One of the most challenging aspects was the re-fit of the Spa. The Salt Grill restaurant also formed a major part of the scope (pictured).

P&O Cruises Australia's VP of Hotel Operations Sture Myrmell said: "Mivan did an outstanding job in the construction of the new Spa and the Salt Grill, and the response from our passengers has been excellent."

Mivan Business Development Director Stephen Mills added: "Mivan has maintained its strategy for the cruise ship sector, keeping dedicated Project Managers and outfitting teams focused on this market and client base. We feel that this has resulted in a better working relationship with the client team and a consistent team structure for every project."

The Mivan Group is one of the world's leading specialist construction companies and celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. With offices in the UK, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Mivan has completed Interiors & Theming, Property Development & General Contracting projects in around 40 countries. Mivan currently employs around 375 people worldwide.
