After a four-year €1bn upgrade to Dublin's M50 the new, improved will be finished next month.
Once the country's most notorious traffic jam, with 16km tailbacks not uncommon, the National Roads Authority (NRA) will announce the completion of the massive upgrading project in the coming weeks.
Barrier-free tolling and free-flow interchanges have replaced earlier pay-toll booths that caused traffic congestion.
Soon, four lanes of motorway will be available to run on each carriageway along the 31km route, with 10 junctions being replaced.
The motorway was an engineering feat being rebuilt virtually underneath the wheels of the 100,000 cars using the motorway every day, while all the time keeping traffic moving.
