The regulatory and support body for architects in Ireland, the RIAI is to hold a special course on designing low-energy domestic contracts.
To be held on August 24, at the RIAI's Merrion Square offices in Dublin, the event is being run in partnership with Joseph Little Architects.
'Designing Low-Energy Domestic Refurbs, Optimising Long Term Value For Your Client' is to be an intensive one-day programme specifically for professionals in the field of architecture.
The course is delivered by the means of lectures and workshops.
The aim of the course is to give attending architects practical and focused tips and tools to design better energy-efficient refurbishments, and to be able to prove the value of their design to the client.
The course tutors are Joseph Little BArch, MRIAI, MSc Archit. AEES and Beñat Arregi BArch (EHU/UPV), both from Joseph Little Architects.
The course comes a few days after the RIAI successfully held an intensive half-day safety course for architects on safety matters.
'Safety By Design' was held in mid August at the RIAI offices to provide architects with a working knowledge of health and safety and the role of the designer under the construction regulations.
The programme included practical exercises to develop experience in producing the correct information to be passed onto project supervisors, record keeping and 'designing out' hazards.
Cathal Mooney, MIOSH, said of Safety By Design: "The course used up-to-date and live case studies to highlight issues for designers when it comes to making safe design decisions."
Commenting, John Graby, Director of the RIAI said: "The course explained and clearly marked the beginning and the end of the health and safety role of the designer in the building process."
