Plans for a €2.9m regeneration of Dundalk's Market Square have been given the go-ahead.
Councillors agreed to an amended plan that would allow two lanes of traffic to remain on the southern side of the Square.
One lane will turn onto Clanbrassil Street, the other onto Crowe Street. Frontage along the existing footpath on the southern side will be extended by at least five metres.
The proposals also include parking on the western side of the Long Walk, a raised pedestrian crossing and an extension of the loading bay in Crowe Street.
The original scheme meet with opposition as traders rejected plans for a new traffic flow, bus bay and taxi rank.
The project is due for completion in September.
The tendering process will begin within the next few weeks.
