Despite planning permission being granted last April, objections continue against a €350m overhaul of RTE's Montrose studios.
Objections from local Donnybrook residents that includes financier Dermot Desmond's opposition, have been attending an oral planning hearing this week.
But, the national broadcaster said the redevelopment, that is known as 'Project 2025', is necessary to cater for the digital age.
When it starts, the €350m refit will allow RTE to host all of its services in a new purpose-built complex over 17 acres and give the beleaguered construction trade a fillip.
The masterplan is to develop the site over the next 10 to 15 years, constructing new high-definition digital TV studios, radio studios, and offices, even a public plaza.
RTE says the existing buildings, most of which are to be demolished, house outdated analogue equipment and could not be re-engineered or adapted for the digital age.
