There will not be no change in the planned building of a motorway for Wexford - but the much needed construction contract is likely to be delayed because of national cutbacks.

The National Roads' Authority (NRA) has ruled out the possibility of a truncated M-way for users and plans to continue with the proposed route from Oylegate to Rosslare Europort.

However, it has also emerged that the Dáil Government will delay the construction of all roads in the county - much to the disappointment of contractors.

To date over 2,000 Wexford residents have made submissions regarding the controversial proposed motorway, which will complete the national road network from the North to Rosslare, when finished.

The Wexford Echo newspaper has reported that Don Curtin of the Road Liaison Office of the NRA said the organisation's staff is reviewing all of the submissions.

Mr. Curtin said the NRA expects a preferred route to be identified by the end of March.

"It will then hold a public exhibition of the planned route for all to see. A route selection report will then be drawn up with detailed information of the particular route.

"The route will be 300 metres wide and the width of the road will be 50-60 metres," he said.
