Slieve Donard Hotel 'Goes Green'

A popular Hastings Hotel's seaside hotel in Northern Ireland, the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa has announced that it is the first hotel there to receive a prestigious Green Hospitality Eco Label.

The Green Hospitality Awards programme is recognised both nationally and internationally for encouraging members to strive for good environmental performance and allow visitors to choose greener options.

The Eco Label means the Slieve Donard has met with strict criteria in relation to waste, water, energy, biodiversity, social responsibility and green purchasing.

The hotel aims to preserve water resources, minimise waste production and reduce its carbon emissions by dropping energy consumption.

Ciaran Murtagh, Deputy General Manager and 'Green Manager' at the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa said: "We are absolutely delighted to have received this label as the first stage of environmental management at the hotel."

The Deputy General Manager continued: "Our focus is now set on building on the green changes we've already made with a view to achieving the gold standard award and reducing our energy consumption and carbon emissions even further.

"The entire team here is very committed to the programme and it's extremely rewarding to see that all the hard work has paid off.

"Now guests can enjoy all the wonderful facilities the hotel has to offer, from the sublime spa to the delicious food and luxurious rooms, knowing that they are also helping the environment by choosing this venue," he said, noting that the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa stands in six acres of private grounds and is one of the most popular hotels in Northern Ireland.

Following a recent £15 million development, extension and refurbishment programme, the Victorian hotel in Down is now home to one of Europe's finest resort spas, and is equally suited to a short break, residential conference, grand event or as a wedding venue in Northern Ireland.
