Plans have been submitted for the refurbishment of a Co Kilkenny church.
The proposed work will see the installation of a lift and new openings at Kilkenny Cathedral.
The website, www.unearthore.com has reported that the contract will see the excavation of a basement floor and creation of a new basement floor slab at lower level and then the installation of a lift serving all three floors of the Chapter House, with new partitions to form a lobby at each level.
It will also involve the creation of new openings in internal walls at basement level as well as the installation of toilets at basement level and alterations to a staircase from basement level to ground floor.
For disabled access to be improved, the plan will see the creation of universal access ramp with associated door opening in load bearing wall on the north side of the main entrance.
To help preserve the Cathedral's historic structure, the lifting and resetting existing granite external steps and a landing to provide level access at main entrance from the Cathedral grounds will also be involved under the Ossory Diocesan Trust plans.
